From Tree To Table®
Live Edge Wood Slabs
At Oak City Customs, we manufacture the highest quality custom furnishings From Tree To Table® by utilizing the machinery and tooling required to sawmill, kiln dry, cut, plane, sand, and finish locally-sourced woods, exotic tropical woods, and metals, into custom furniture that will truly last the test of time! Whether you're a business in need of planer finished wood slabs for your projects, or you are seeking fully-finished live edge furnishings for your home or office, it all begins at the Oak City Customs Slab Library!
Live Edge Slabs: Nature’s Unique Artistry
Live-edge slabs represent a marriage between raw natural beauty and functional design. Unlike traditional lumber, which is squared off and stripped of its character to create uniform boards, a live edge slab retains the natural periphery of the tree—including the unique curves, knots, and occasionally the bark. This "living" edge ensures that no two pieces are ever identical, making each slab a one-of-a-kind masterpiece of organic geometry! As a hardwood supplier, we regularly have Oaks, Maples, Poplar, Cedar, Sweet Gum, Cherry, Walnut, & many other local and tropical wood species available for both retail & wholesale. At our facility, we save, store, mill, air-dry, and kiln-dry these live-edge slabs, offering them for sale at any desired finish level.
Sustainable Sourcing
At Oak City Customs, we're passionate about repurposing locally sourced urban trees to create heirloom-quality products, with a rustic and industrial modern style and close attention to detail and customization! We work with local tree services to reclaim lumber that would otherwise be sent to the wood chipper or landfill. Many slabs are sourced from "urban lumber"—trees that have fallen due to storms, reached the end of their natural life, or were removed for safety or construction. Slabs utilize a larger portion of the log that might otherwise be discarded in standardized industrial milling, honoring the entire life of the tree.
Local Craftsmanship
All custom furniture is designed and manufactured outside of Raleigh in our facility in Zebulon, NC. We have a sawmill with the capability to cut 63" wide slabs, plus two custom-built, de-humidification style kilns that can dry approx 11,000 board feet of wood per month. This is in addition to over 100,000 board feet of air-drying slabs & boards on the yard!
