Bespoke Tables — Designed and Built for You in Raleigh, NC
One-of-a-kind tables designed in collaboration with our in-house team. Locally-sourced wood, custom metalwork, no two alike.
Bespoke means starting from a blank page. Unlike made-to-order tables, where you customize one of our existing designs, a bespoke commission is a fully original piece — designed with you, for your space, your story, and how you live or work. Every detail, from the wood we select at our Zebulon kiln to the geometry of the steel base, is yours.
Why Choose a Bespoke Table from Oak City Customs
Most furniture makers in the Triangle outsource at least part of their work — typically the metalwork, the milling, or the finish. We do all of it under one roof. That means when you commission a bespoke table from us, every decision stays in-house, and every detail can be adjusted at any stage of the build:
- Two 8,000 sq ft wood drying kilns — we kiln dry an average of 12,000 board feet per month, which means we can source and dry specialty slabs to your specifications.
- 52" double helical planer — the widest known planer on the East Coast, so we can produce single-slab tables up to four feet wide.
- Full in-house metal shop — welding, CNC plasma cutting, CNC press brake, tube and angle rolling, plate rolling. Custom steel, aluminum, copper, and brass bases without a third-party fabricator.
- 5' x 10' & 5' x 20' CNC Routers — for inlays, logos, and intricate joinery details.
- Fully-enclosed spray booth — for gallery-quality finishes.
Past Bespoke Commissions
A look at the kind of work that defines our bespoke practice:
- The Conduit Conference Table — A 16-foot conference table with custom electrical and data conduit integrated into the base, fabricated for a corporate client where standard cable management wasn't going to cut it.
- Charlotte Beam Trestle Base — A monumental steel trestle base designed for a large-format dining table, fabricated entirely in our metal shop.
- Bourbon Barrel Table — Built from reclaimed bourbon barrels with custom steel banding, commissioned for a client who wanted to reflect their personal collection.
- Live Edge Waterfall Table — A continuous-grain waterfall design with a single matched walnut slab, mitered at the legs to preserve the live edge throughout.
- Partitioned Workstation — A bespoke commercial workstation system blending live edge wood and custom steel partitions for a client redesigning their office floor plan.
How a Bespoke Project Works
Bespoke commissions are different from made-to-order. They start with a longer discovery phase, include multiple rounds of design revisions, and may require sourcing materials we don't currently stock. Here's what to expect:
- Discovery consultation. We meet at our Zebulon showroom (or via video) to discuss your space, your story, the use case, and any references or inspirations. Bring photos, sketches, even Pinterest boards — anything helps.
- Design exploration. Our team develops 2–3 distinct design directions, each with renderings and material recommendations. You'll see how the piece will look in your space before any wood is cut.
- Refinement and approval. We narrow to a single direction and refine the details — joinery, finish, hardware, edge profile — until every decision is right.
- Material sourcing. We hand-select your slab from our kiln-dried inventory or source it specifically for your project. For exotic or specialty woods, sourcing may take an additional 2–4 weeks.
- Fabrication and finish. Built in our shop with check-ins along the way. You're welcome to visit and see the piece in progress at any stage.
- White-glove delivery. Final delivery and installation in your space, typically in the Triangle area, but we deliver throughout North Carolina and the Southeast.
Investment
Bespoke commissions typically start at $8,000 and scale based on scope, material, and complexity. Larger conference tables, specialty wood species, and integrated metalwork are quoted individually. Every project includes:
- Concept renderings
- Detailed shop drawings
- Full component breakdown
- A dedicated project lead from concept through delivery
Your Design Team
Bespoke buyers want to know who they're collaborating with. Our in-house design team brings backgrounds in furniture design, architecture, and metal fabrication. We don't outsource design any more than we outsource fabrication — every renderings and shop drawing is produced by the same people who will build your piece.
