Wood Panel Finish Levels
Planer | Wide-Belt | Orbital | Fully-Finished
Below Are Descriptions Of the 4 Finish Levels We Offer on all Wood Panels
Planer Finish
- Material is straight-line ripped to feature clean & perfectly straight edges & prepped for glue-up
- Panel is 'edge glued' using Titebond 3 wood glue
- Major cracks, knots, & imperfections are filled with Oak City Customs Epoxy, filler and/or glue
- Cracks, knots, & imperfections less than 1/4" wide may be present
- Flattened & finished with our 52" double helical jointer/planer
- Cut-to-size on our panel saw (+/-) 1/8"
Wide-Belt Finish
- Material is straight-line ripped to feature clean & perfectly straight edges & prepped for glue-up
- Panel is 'edge glued' using Titebond 3 wood glue
- Major cracks, knots, & imperfections are filled with Oak City Customs Epoxy, filler and/or glue
- Cracks, knots, & imperfections less than 1/8" wide may be present
- Flattened & finished with our 52" double helical jointer/planer
- Cut-to-size on our CNC machine (+/-) 1/8"
- Sanded to 150 grit with our 52" wide-belt finish sander to meet any specified thickness
- Edge detail applied (round-over, bevel, ogee, etc.)
- Edges sanded clean of saw marks
- All surfaces hand orbital sanded to 150 grit
- Surfaces may need to be inspection sanded to 220 grit, prior to applying finish, depending on application
Orbital Finish
All previous steps - PLUS -
- Sanded to 180 grit with our 52" orbital finish sander
- Inspected for finishing steps
Fully-Finished
All previous steps - PLUS -
- Final inspection & 220 grit hand orbital sanding
- 3 coats minimum to top surface & 2 coats minimum to bottom surface, of clear satin water-based polyurethane finish or Rubio Monocoat finish
